Deer Causes Motorcycle Crash on Route 8; Motorcyclist Injured

CHERRYTREE TOWNSHIP, Pa. (EYT) — According to Franklin-based State Police, around 9:12 a.m. on May 8, a motorcycle accident occurred on State Route 8, at its intersection with Pat Tarr Road, in Cherrytree Township, Venango County.

Police say 61-year-old Christopher J. Horne, of Ediboro, was traveling southbound on SR 8 on a 2006 Honda Shadow Spirit and rounding a slight right hand curve in the roadway.

Horne encountered a deer that was attempting to cross the roadway surface. Horne attempted an evasive driving maneuver but was unable to maintain control of his motorcycle, according to police.

The motorcycle struck the pavement with the left front foot bar causing it to throw Horne onto the roadway surface, police say.

He suffered moderate injuries; Emergycare transported him to UMPC, according to police.

He was wearing a helmet, long sleeve coat, and boots, police say.
