Driver Flees Police, Slams into Utility Pole in Oil City

HandcuffedOIL CITY, Pa. (EYT) — An Oil City man is facing felony charges following a police chase early yesterday morning.

The incident happened around 5:12 a.m. when Oil City police initiated a traffic stop involving a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix.

Police say when they activated their emergency lights, the driver attempted to elude officers by driving off at a high rate of speed.

The driver, later identified as Bryan Crouch, 28, of Oil City, attempted to turn onto East Second St. from Wilson Ave. and lost control of the vehicle.

He subsequently hit a telephone pole head-on, causing severe damage to his vehicle, police say.

A portion of East Second St. and Wilson Ave. was shut down for a short period of time following the incident.

Crouch was arrested on the following charges:

– Fleeing or Attempting to Elude Officer – Felony 3
– Careless Driving – Summary
– Driving at Safe Speed – Summary
– Reckless Driving – Summary

He was arraigned before District Judge Fish and placed in Venango County Jail on $5,000.00 straight bail.

Crouch faces a preliminary hearing on May 7 in Venango County Central Court.
