DUI Crash: Vehicle Goes Airborne on State Route 8, Crashes Down Steep Hillside

SANDYCREEK TWP., Pa. (EYT) — An intoxicated driver was taken into custody after crashing his vehicle down a steep hillside off State Route 8 in Sandycreek Township, Venango County.

Franklin-based State Police said the accident happened Friday around 7:15 p.m. on State Route 8.

Police said a 2007 GMC V2500 driven by a 26-year-old Evans City man was traveling north on State Route 8 when it left the roadway for unknown reasons.

The vehicle traveled approximately 400 feet off of the roadway and struck several trees before going airborne and traveling off a steep hillside. It continued to strike several additional trees before coming to a rest at the bottom of the hillside.

The operator, whose name was not released, refused medical treatment at the scene.

He was placed under arrest for suspicion of DUI (drug-related) after showing signs of impairment.

Charges are pending.

Sandycreek Volunteer Fire Department and Community Ambulance assisted at the scene.
