Empty Bowls Event Helps Local Food Pantries

| March 25, 2014

RENO, Pa. (EYT)  – Empty bowls were filled Monday evening, both literally and figuratively, as patrons lined up for a ladle of homemade soup as part of the hunger awareness and fundraising event held by Community Services of Venango County.

Around 270 people participated in the event, which took place at the Wanango Golf Club.

“I haven’t started counting the money yet, but we had a great turnout,” Event Coordinator, Cindy Woloszyn said.

Woloszyn continued, “We had a couple of chefs that ran out of soup. Overall it went very well.”

The proceeds will directly benefit the Community Service’s two food pantries and fund the organization’s programs that aim to help eliminate hunger.

An event more than six months in the making, the endeavor was a true labor of helping those in need.

“I want to give a big thank-you to everyone who came and to all those who volunteered,” Woloszyn said.
