FRANKLIN, Pa. (EYT) — A Franklin man is behind bars following a violent assault where he reportedly punched another man in the face multiple times and “stomped” on his face.

Court documents indicate the Franklin Police Department on Sunday, January 30, filed criminal charges against 31-year-old David William Young.

According to a criminal complaint, around 9:36 p.m. on Friday, January 28, Franklin Police were dispatched to a residence on 12th Street for a report of a man being assaulted.

A known witness at the scene told police that David William Young had become angry over what was thought to be a “joking conversation.” Young allegedly approached a known male victim who was seated in a recliner and began punching the victim in the face repeatedly, according to the complaint.

The witness told police that the victim attempted to defend himself, but was unable to do so, and Young then pulled the victim to the floor and continued to punch him in the face until the victim went unconscious. The witness said he attempted to stop Young, but Young continued and then also kicked the victim several times and “stomped” on the victim’s face. The witness then called 9-1-1, and Young fled the residence, the complaint indicates.

The victim regained consciousness just before police arrived at the scene. However, he was reportedly unable to remember what had occurred and stated he “must have been knocked out.” Police observed the victim had bloodshot eyes, a crooked nose, swelling to his face, and bruising around his eyes. The victim was assessed at the scene by a crew from Community Ambulance Service and was subsequently transported to UPMC Northwest for treatment, according to the complaint.

The complaint indicates Young was later located by police near the intersection of 14th and Chestnut Street, based on his description.

According to the complaint, Young initially gave police the name “Mike” and then called himself “Mike the good citizen.” However, police were able to positively identify him, and he was then placed under arrest.

When questioned about the altercation, Young reportedly admitted to kicking the victim in the face. He was then held until a detainer was issued from State Parole, and he was then lodged at the Venango County Jail, the complaint states.

Police were advised by staff at UPMC that the victim’s injuries consisted of a concussion, corneal abrasions, and a broken nose, the complaint notes.

Young was arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge Patrick E. Lowrey at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, January 31, on the following charges:

– Aggravated Assault — Attempts to cause Serious Bodily Injury or causes injury with extreme indifference, Felony 1
– False Identification to Law Enforcement, Misdemeanor 3
– Harassment — Subject Other to Physical Contact, Summary

He was lodged in the Venango County Jail with bail denied due to being a flight risk and being on parole, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on February 9 with Judge Lowrey presiding.

Court documents indicate Young has a criminal history dating back to 2010 with convictions that include DUI, drug possession, and resisting arrest.
