VENANGO CO., Pa. (EYT) — A Franklin man who was reportedly caught in possession of multiple controlled substances and drug paraphernalia during a probation visit was held for court on Wednesday.

Court documents indicate the following charges against 59-year-old Jose I. Rivera were held for court on Wednesday, June 16:

– Manufacture, Delivery, or Possession With Intent to Manufacture or Deliver, Felony
– Possession of Controlled Substance, Misdemeanor
– Marijuana-Small Amount Personal Use, Misdemeanor
– Use/Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Misdemeanor

The charges have been transferred to the Venango County Court of Common Pleas.

Rivera remains lodged in the Venango County Jail with bail denied due to being “on state parole awaiting a parole detainer,” according to the court document.

The charges stem from discoveries made during a probation and parole home visit in late May.

Details of the case:

According to a criminal complaint, on May 26, Franklin Police were asked to assist at a probation and parole home visit for Jose Rivera at a residence on Liberty Street.

According to the complaint, police arrived at the scene and found Rivera handcuffed, seated on the bed, with several glass pipes with burnt residue, a large amount of US currency, a baggie of marijuana, several pills in different containers, a digital scale with residue, and torch-type lighters in plain view.

The complaint states the parole agents then also discovered a ziplock bag of suspected crystal methamphetamine. The apartment was then secured and a search warrant was applied for and granted.

According to the complaint, the resulting search then also located additional controlled substances, drug paraphernalia, and US currency, along with three cellular phones.

The complaint notes some of the controlled substances were individually packaged into smaller quantities and located in a fanny pack with approximately $3,000.00 cash. The substances located included approximately 400 grams of suspected methamphetamine as well as unspecified amounts of suspected heroin, crack, and cocaine, and approximately 9.3 grams of marijuana.

Rivera was arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge Patrick E. Lowrey at 11:00 p.m. on May 26.
