Despite a delay due to a “finicky” water heater, Grumpy Goat Distillery opened its doors the day before Applefest and enjoyed a successful weekend.

“It went really, reall well,” owner Tom Kingdom told exploreVenango.com.

“It actually exceeded our expectations, and it was really nice. The place was constantly busy and everybody was talking about us, which we were just tickled pink over.”

According to Kingdom, they opened with a limited menu for their first big weekend, and it worked out very well.

“Since it was our opening weekend, we kind of toned down our offerings to the three shine wines, the whiskey, and the OMG ‘Oh My Goat’ cinnamon whiskey. We would rather have a lot of a few things than a little bit of a lot of things, and risk running out,” he noted.

“We still came close to running out of some things, but we didn’t. We had just enough to get through the whole weekend.”

Kingdom noted that the peach and raspberry “Shine Wines” were two of the most popular items, along with the Apple Pie Moonshine.

“To be honest, our OMG whiskey was pretty darned popular, too. Everybody got a kick out of the fact that ‘OMG’ stands for ‘Oh My Goat.'”

While they opened with a limited menu for their first big weekend, Kingdom said he’s looking forward to being able to offer even more in the future.

“Next year we’ll be able to have a full menu, and there’s quite a few different things we’ll be offering, including some brandies. Stay tuned, because there’s always going to be something new.”
