Gunfire Erupts During Juvenile Welfare Check in Oil City

OIL CITY, Pa. (EYT) – An encounter between visitors and an Oil City resident during a juvenile welfare check turned violent when gunfire erupted, leading to the arrest of the resident.

According to court documents, the Oil City Police Department filed the following criminal charges against 27-year-old Jonathan Allen Davis, of Oil City, in Magisterial District Judge Andrew F. Fish’s office on Monday, March 13:

  • Terroristic Threats w/Intent To Terrorize Another, Misdemeanor 1
  • Recklessly Endangering Another Person, Misdemeanor 2
  • Simple Assault, Misdemeanor 2

According to a criminal complaint, on Sunday, March 12, two known female victims and one male victim went to the residence of John Davis to check on the welfare of a juvenile at the residence.

They knocked on the door and yelled for Mr. Davis, who answered the door and then slammed it in the victims’ faces. Davis then opened the door again and fired a .22 caliber rifle into the air and stated to the victims that “the next one is going to go through you,” the complaint states

The victims stated that Davis then went inside and loaded a magazine with more .22 caliber shells. The victims stated that they were in fear and “did not think that he would ever do this,” the complaint indicates.

One of the victims then stated that she is in fear for the juvenile who lives at the residence, according to the complaint.

According to court records, Davis was arraigned at 9:30 a.m. on March 13.

Judge Fish denied bail. The Bail Action Reason is listed as “Severity of Charges/threat to (the) victim.”

Davis was then lodged in the Venango County Prison.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled/set for Wednesday, March 22, at 1:30 p.m. with Judge Fish presiding.
