Hearing for Local Man Accused of Forging Signature, Cashing Checks Set for Wednesday

Gavin a - court roomCANAL TWP., Pa. (EYT) – A hearing for a local man facing charges after he allegedly forged and cashed $175.00 worth of checks is scheduled for Wednesday morning.

According to court documents, a preliminary hearing for 35-year-old Joshua Adam Keith, of Utica, is slated for 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 14, with Magisterial District Judge Andrew F. Fish’s presiding.

He faces the following charges:

  • Forgery – Unauthorized Act in Writing, Misdemeanor 1 (three counts)
  • Theft Property Lost Etc by Mistake, Misdemeanor 2 (three counts)

Details of the case:

According to a criminal complaint released on Wednesday, January 24, PSP Franklin received a complaint of theft regarding checks that were cashed in a known victim’s name around 3:30 p.m. on Friday, December 22, 2023.

The victim was alerted of the theft by an individual who shared an account with Joshua Keith, the complaint states.

After receiving copies of the checks, the victim was able to confirm that he did not sign the checks—which were three checks totaling $175.00, the complaint indicates.

Keith agreed to be interviewed on December 29. He was read his Miranda Rights, and he allegedly admitted to police that he signed the victim’s name without his permission and deposited the checks into his account, according to the complaint.

Keith was charged with the above charges on Tuesday, January 16, 2024.
