Details of the case:

According to a criminal complaint, around 8:20 p.m. on August 26, Oil City Police were dispatched to a residence on Washington Avenue for a report of a domestic disturbance in progress.

According to the complaint, a known female victim reported that Mathew Wilson had choked her and would not allow her to leave the residence.

The complaint states that at the scene, police observed a dead bird in a cage directly inside the door of the residence. Police also observed the house was “in a condition that was not suitable for living” to the extent that Venango County Children and Youth Services (CYS) determined the house was not suitable for children to live in, and Oil City code enforcement condemned the house.

According to the complaint, during an interview, the victim reported that Wilson would not allow her to leave the residence and threatened serious injury or death to her and family members, including the minor children living in the residence.

The victim told police that earlier in the day, Wilson held her against a wall with his hand around her throat. She also reported that shortly before the officers arrived, Wilson pushed her to the floor and pushed a metal shelf onto her, then applied pressure to the shelf to prevent her from getting up, according to the complaint.

The complaint notes there were seven minor children present at the residence who witnessed the incidents.

Wilson was arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge Matthew T. Kirtland at 9:00 p.m. on August 28.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 9.
