Irene BeanIrene B. (Lehman) Bean, age 88, of Tionesta, PA, died on Monday, January 30, 2017 at Southwoods Assisted Living in Titusville, PA.

She was born in West Middlesex, PA on January 19, 1929 to the late Lee A. and Elise E. (Mecklem) Lehman.

Irene married her late husband of over 57 years, Morley S. Bean, in Venus, PA on June 29, 1950. He preceded her in death on March 16, 2008. She had worked in the cafeteria at West Forest High School and also at Horner’s Potato Farm, both of Tionesta. She was a tipstaff and court crier for Forest County for many years.

She was a 4-H leader and served on the 4-H board for over 40 years. Irene was a devoted member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and enjoyed gardening and crocheting both doilies and afghans. She made countless afghans for not only her family and friends but also for many wedding and baby gifts. She also enjoyed decorating her home for the holidays.

She is survived by a son, Terry L. Bean and his wife Elaine of Tionesta. Two daughters, Sandra A. Bartholomew of Aiken, SC; and Joan E. Slezak, of Tionesta. Seven grandchildren survive: Stephanie Threlkeld and her husband Connor of Graniteville, SC; Jessica Bessette and her husband Joe of Aiken, SC; Sarah Bartholomew and Chad Vincent of Aiken, SC; Holli Wolfe and her husband Dustin of Tionesta, Travis Slezak and his wife Rachel of Venus, Taylor Bean of Cleveland, OH, and Mikaela Bean of Tionesta.

Eight great grandchildren also survive, Julia and Jordan Bessette of Aiken, SC, Elliott Threlkeld of Graniteville, SC, Conner and Abrielle Summerville and Benjamin Wolfe of Tionesta, and Mason and Weston Slezak of Venus. Irene is also survived by a brother, Bert W. Lehman and his wife Mary Lee of Tionesta, and a sister, Evelyn E. Smith of Salem, OH. Several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Lee R. Lehman; two sisters, Marion Ackerman and Annabelle Motzer; and two son-in-laws, Dennis W. Bartholomew and Kenneth G. Slezak. A godson, William Dalrymple.

Friends will be received at the Norman J. Wimer Funeral Home of Tionesta from 11 A.M. to noon on Saturday, February 4, 2017, followed by funeral services at noon with Rev. Samuel Mabugu, Pastor of the Mt. Zion Lutheran Church officiating.

Interment will be next to her husband in Mt. Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery of Tionesta.
