Kaeko C. “Katie” Swonder

Kaeko C. “Katie” Swonder, 87, of 223 Park Ave., Oil City, died at 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012, in her home.

Born June 14, 1925, in Kobe, Japan, she was the daughter of the late Shinosuke Mizota and Tomiyo Aono Mizota.

Mrs. Swonder attended schools in Kobe.

She was married in 1951 in Kobe, Japan, in the American consulate, to Joseph A. Swonder, and he preceded her in death Feb. 12, 2011.

A homemaker, Katie was a dress maker and seamstress out of her home for many years. She enjoyed sewing and making doll and baby clothes.

She also enjoyed baking and cooking.

She was a member of St. Joseph Church in Oil City.

Katie is survived by a daughter, Joan E. Esch and her husband, Gene, of Oil City; a brother-in-law, Edward Swonder of Erie; and two sisters-in-law, Cecilia Piercy of Seneca and Theresa Swonder of Taylor, Mich.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Hiromichi Mizota and Toshikazu Mizota.

There will be no viewing or visitation.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11a.m. Thursday at Assumption BVM Church in Oil City with Father Justin P. Pino, pastor, presiding.

Entombment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
