Kenneth C. Gibbons, 86, formerly of Seneca Rd., Meadville and a resident of the Crawford County Care Center, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2013 at Meadville Medical Center.

He was born September 28, 1926 in Franklin, a son of Roy M. and Gladys Coxson Gibbons. He married Catherine Wolfe August 23, 1958 and she preceded him in death October 21, 2010. Ken was a 1944 graduate of Franklin High School and a 1948 graduate of Clarion State Teachers College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in foreign languages. He also attended Middlebury College in Vermont and McGill University, Montreal, Canada. Ken was a teacher at Cochranton, Saegertown, and Meadville High Schools and also at a high school in Burnham, PA. He taught French and Spanish primarily as well as Latin. He also taught English as a second language to foreign exchange students. Following retirement, Ken taught for 10 years at the Intermediate Unit through Edinboro University at Meadville High School. He was a member of Meadville Alliance Church and the Pennsylvania State and National Education Associations. Ken volunteered for many years at the Venango County Historical Society and was very proud of the family genealogy work he did over numerous years.

Survivors include a sister, Norma Hamilton of Franklin and many loving nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Stephen Gibbons Hamilton of North Carolina.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Leona Gibbons Ellis and Frances Gibbons Baker and two brothers, Ronald and Richard Gibbons. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville where the funeral and committal service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Jeff Conley, Pastor of Meadville Alliance Church, officiating. Interment will be in Lupher Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Meadville Alliance Church, 660 N. Main St., Meadville, PA 16335.
