Leon E. Hurt, 80, of 23225 Titusville Road, Titusville, formerly of East Gore Rd, Erie, died at 7:50 am Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at the Oil City Presbyterian Home, where he had been a resident for the past week after an extended illness.

Born August 12, 1931 in Oil City, he was a son of the late Stetson and Nellie Bradley Hurt.

Mr. Hurt was a graduate of Oil City High School.

He was employed by National Fuel until his retirement in 1987.

Mr. Hurt and his wife Erma then ran Hurt’s Meter Service, a Business they started in Erie, then moved to Hydetown.

He was a member of Petrolia Lodge 363 F&AM, Venango Lodge of Perfection and New Castle Consistory.

Mr. Hurt enjoyed his family and friends, was an avid bowler for many years and was known for his many home construction projects.

On October 6, 1955, he married the former Erma Murray in Oil City, who preceded him in death on March 19, 2009.

He is survived by a daughter, Sally Barr and husband Alan of Centerville; a son, Brian Hurt and wife Fae Michelle of Rocky Grove; two grandchildren, Jessica Hurt and Brandon Hurt and two great grandchildren, Chasity and Lilyan.

Also surviving are a brother, Roger Hurt and wife Nancy of Coudersport, a brother-in-law, Richard Murray and wife Nancy of Oil City, a sister-in-law, Rhea Britt and husband Phillip of Macon GA, a brother-in-law, John Murray and wife Linda of Oil City, a sister-in-law, Sherry Murray of Tennessee and many nieces and nephews.

He also leaves behind his loving and devoted dog, Dusty.

Mr. Hurt was very grateful for his wonderful caregivers these past months.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Robert Murray.

Friends may call at the Morrison Funeral Home on Thursday from 7 to 9 pm.

Interment will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens, Cranberry.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Venango County Humane Society, PO Box 1045, Oil City PA 16301.
