Local Man in Custody Following Motorcycle, Foot Pursuit in Cranberry Township
CRANBERRY TWP., Pa. (EYT) – A local man is behind bars after attempting to flee police on a motorcycle in Cranberry Township on Thursday.
According to court documents, Franklin-based State Police filed criminal charges against 21-year-old Chase William Weaver, of Seneca, in Magisterial District Judge Patrick E. Lowrey’s office on Sunday, March 26.
According to a criminal complaint, a PSP Franklin Trooper observed a black motorcycle traveling north on Horsecreek Road in Cranberry Township, Venango County, without a registration plate around 11:45 a.m. on Thursday, March 23.
The trooper initiated a traffic stop in the 1400 block of Horsecreek Road. The operator of the motorcycle—later identified as Chase Weaver—looked behind at the trooper and overtook a motorist on the left side of the roadway before fleeing, the complaint states.
Weaver then turned east onto State Route 157 at a high rate of speed and then turned south onto Heckathorn Church Road, the complaint indicates.
The chase continued into the 200 block of Carnes School Road where Weaver stopped the motorcycle and fled on foot into a wooded area, the complaint notes.
At this time, the trooper got out of his vehicle and began yelling verbal commands to stop, which were unsuccessful. Weaver ran approximately 70 yards before surrendering without further incident, the complaint states.
Search incident to arrest revealed Weaver was in possession of a small amount of marijuana. He also made an admission of smoking marijuana and displayed signs of impairment during a field sobriety test, the complaint indicates.
The complaint notes that Weaver possessed active bench warrants in Venango and Clarion Counties.
He consented to a chemical test of blood at UPMC Northwest, the complaint states.
Weaver was arraigned at 3:45 p.m. on Sunday, March 26, on the following charges in front of Judge Kirtland:

Unable to post $35,000.00 monetary bail, he was lodged in the Venango County Prison.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, April 5, at 8:30 a.m., in Venango County Central Court with Judge Kirtland presiding.
