Local Woman Involved in Crash With Teen Cyclist on Route 8

MERCER TWP., Pa. (ETY) — Police say a Polk woman was involved in a crash that injured a teen cyclist on State Route 8 on Monday afternoon.

According to Butler-based State Police, the accident happened around 3:26 p.m. on Monday, January 25, on State Route 8 just south of Whitaker Road in Mercer Township, Butler County.

Police say 58-year-old Joyce J. Ledonne, of Polk, was operating a 2015 Dodge RAM 1500, traveling south on State Route 8 when she came up behind a 14-year-old male juvenile riding a pedal cycle on the right shoulder.

According to police, as Ledonne attempted to overtake the cycle on the left, the cycle drove away from the shoulder and into the southbound lane of travel. As a result, Ledonne’s vehicle struck the cycle.

The juvenile cyclist was not wearing safety equipment and suffered injuries to his head. He was transported to Grove City Medical Center by Superior Ambulance Service.

Ledonne was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.

The juvenile was cited for a hand and arm signal violation.
