CRANBERRY TWP., Pa. (EYT) – Police say a man assaulted his wife following a disagreement over the discipline of their son on Wednesday in Cranberry Township, Venango County.

According to police, an incident of assault occurred around 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 17, when a 36-year-old Seneca woman was in the process of disciplining her son at a residence on Acorn Drive in Cranberry Township.

Police say the victim picked up her son to discipline him by spanking him when her husband, a 40-year-old Seneca man, began to argue with her about the discipline.

According to police, the victim then picked up their son to leave and go to a different apartment, and her husband approached her from behind and placed his hand on her throat and squeezed, preventing her from breathing in a normal fashion.

Police say when the victim then turned and faced her husband, he used the heel of his hand to strike her on the left side of her face.

The victim’s husband was arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge Patrick E. Lowrey and released on unsecured bail.
