Man Arrested for Allegedly Attempting to Pay Minor for Sex via Facebook Alias

RICHLAND TOWNSHIP, Pa. (EYT) — According to Franklin-based State Police, a New Bethlehem man has been arrested for attempting to pay a minor to perform sexual acts in exchange for money. The incident allegedly occurred on Valley Church Road, in Richland Township, Venango County.

Police say Douglas T. Greenawalt, 24, of New Bethlehem, allegedly created an alias on Facebook and used the account to mask his identity to the victim.

The incident occurred around 7:32 p.m. on January 1, 2014, according to police.

A search warrant was obtained for the alias account and was used to identify Greenawalt, police say.

He was taken into custody on July 30, 2014, and charged with the following offenses:

– Corruption Of Minors — Defendant Age 18 or Above, Felony 3
– Unlawful Contact With Minor — Sexual Offenses, Felony 3
– Promote Prostitution of Minor — Encourage Minor, Felony 3
– Harassment — Comm. Lewd, Threatening, Etc., Misdemeanor 3
– Criminal Use Of Communication Facility

Unable to post $50,000.00 bail, Greenawalt was placed in the Venango County Jail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on August 6 in front of Magisterial District Judge Michael D Snyder.
