MERCER CO., Pa. (EYT) — Mercer Area School District cancelled classes on Wednesday following threats made by a student.

According to a post on Mercer Area School District’s website, the district received two threats through the Safe2Say Anonymous Reporting System on Tuesday evening, January 31, 2023.

Both threats referred to a student-created “hit list” at the Middle-High School.

The first threat came in just after 6:00 p.m. The district then notified law enforcement of the threats for further investigation.

The school’s post stated: “Safety is the district’s main priority, and, out of an abundance of caution, the Mercer Area School District will be CANCELING all classes and extracurricular activities on Wednesday, February 1, to allow law enforcement and the school district time to investigate the reported threats.”

The post continued, “This day of instruction will be rescheduled for a date to be determined later in the school year.”
