Mother Speaks Out on Child Endangerment Accusations Against Fiancé

FRANKLIN, Pa. (EYT) – A Franklin woman is speaking out on an alleged incident in Franklin in which her fiancé is accused of endangering the welfare of their child.

According to police, 25-year-old Shawn McDonald, of Franklin, faces one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child following a report and subsequent investigation of a two-year-old child being found alone in the 11th Street playground.

Police say the incident occurred around 12:40 p.m. on May 24 when a child was allegedly observed alone by members of Community Ambulance Service who were concerned for his safety and welfare and who cared for and protected the child until the arrival of police. The investigation determined that the child allegedly walked out of his home while the father slept, and without the father’s knowledge, according to police.

Police allege that this type of occurrence happened on at least two prior occasions and no corrective action had been taken to ensure it did not happen again.

McDonald’s fiancée Ashley Fazzino, the mother of the child, says there’s more to the story.

“On Friday morning, my oldest son woke up late. I took him to school and came home and my younger two were still asleep. Shawn was in bed with them. I started having severe pains and had my Father come to take me to the hospital. Shawn was awake with both the children when I left. I called a few hours later while I was on my way home and Shawn alerted me that the police were at the door because Zephyr had gotten out of the house and went to the park. The park is next door to our house,” said Ms. Fazzino.

Ms. Fazzino continued, “I had my Dad drop me off at home and my Dad immediately went to buy locks for the top of the doors where Zephyr can’t reach. CYS came in and investigated and found no grounds to take my children. This has not happened before. Zephyr has unlocked the door and gone outside to recycle or assist in throwing out the garbage. He has never run off to the park unattended. Shawn fell asleep with the boys while I was gone and Zephyr woke up and snuck out.”

McDonald will receive a summons to appear in court on charges of Endangering the welfare of a child.
