SUGARCREEK BOROUGH, Pa. (EYT) – Two Franklin residents are facing multiple charges for allegedly stealing money from laundry machines at an apartment complex in Sugarcreek Borough.

Court documents indicate that the Sugarcreek Borough Police Department filed criminal charges against 39-year-old Montice Marie Robinson and 38-year-old Steven Ray Bickel.

According to a criminal complaint, on June 13, Sugarcreek Borough Police received a report of an individual who took money from a washer and a dryer at an apartment complex along Crestview Drive, in Sugarcreek Borough, Venango County.

Police spoke with a witness at the complex, who stated that over the weekend Montice Robinson was in the laundry room, and it appeared that she was tampering with the machines.

The witness then stated that Steven Bickel was in the stairwell of the building and would make signals to Robinson every time someone would approach to warn her to stop, the complaint states.

This warning signal was described as a weird sound that Bickel made, and the witness told another person who then took a video of Robinson tampering with the machines.

On June 14, police spoke with an employee of the company that owns the laundry machines that are in the building for residents to use. He stated this had happened several months ago, as well, but was not followed up on by the company to the police for an unknown reason. It was reported to the company, which resulted in a loss of service for a duration of time, the complaint indicates.

The employee also told police that the machines are serviced every two months and that the machines have approximately $400.00 in them. He advised he had repairmen who were able to be at the building on June 14 or June 15 to conduct a repair estimate on the machines, the complaint notes.

Police requested a statement of the cost to repair the machine and the amount of money that was left in the machine to be emailed to him, so he could determine the extent of the damage.

On July 12, police learned that the company recover $400.00 every two months per machine and that two machines needed to be repaired for a cost of approximately $250.00 each, according to the complaint.
