OIL CITY, Pa. (EYT) — Local officials and community members joined together at Justus Park on Sunday for the kick off of Oil City’s 150th Anniversary.

With beautiful, mild weather, officials and speakers addressed those gathered on the past, present, and future of the city in honor of the event.

A local Honor Guard presented the colors for the ceremony, assisted by local Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts.

The opening also included an invocation, the Pledge of Allegiance, and the singing of the National Anthem, led by the Oil City High School band and choir.

With a theme of “Celebrating our past, shaping our future,” three main speakers each had their own focus, with local journalist Judy Etzel speaking about the history of Oil City; local business owner Rebecca Deal speaking on the present state of the city; and Kat Thompson, president of FLEX, speaking about the future of the city.
