Oil City Arts Council’s Transit Concerts Go Virtual: November 13 Event Features Sweet Atmosphere with Max Schang

| November 12, 2020

OIL CITY, Pa. – The Oil City Arts Council will present a virtual Transit Concert on Friday, November 13.

The concert is set for 7:30 p.m.

The featured artist is Sweet Atmosphere, and the concert can be viewed from the Arts Council’s new website www.oilcityartscouncil.org.

The November 13 concert is one of several that the Arts Council’s Programming Committee converted from live events to virtual this year, in response to the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sweet Atmosphere features Bluesman Max Schang and musicians Clint Hoover and Jim Spears. When Schang met Clint Hoover at a recording session in 2018, he knew he found a kindred spirit when Clint launched into Swing 42, by Django Reinhardt, on his harmonica.

Max always had a great love for Django’s music, traveling many times to Paris, which ultimately led to the recording of his “Time Away” CD, where he played both rhythm and lead.

The two of them parted ways, saying: “We definitely should get together again and play this music more often.”

This idea stuck, and when Jim Spears, who regularly plays bass with Max Schang’s Trio of Blues, heard about this project, he was immediately on board and dusted off his upright bass. The three regularly got together to rehearse at Jim’s house, to the delight of his wife, Holly, who knew right away that they were on to something very special.

The name “Sweet Atmosphere” is a nod to Django Reinhardt’s “Douce Ambiance,” but the Trio will not just play Django Reinhardt songs but a broad variety of European swing style music and it is time to share this wonderful genre with a broader audience – we guarantee it will make you smile!

At concert time, the concert can be viewed by visiting www.oilcityartscouncil.org/all-events/concerts/transit-concert-series/sweet-atmosphere/.

Transit Concerts are normally held in the Great Room of the National Transit Building on the second Friday of fall/winter months for an admission cost of $10.00 at the door, but the virtual concerts are free and can be enjoyed from any device, wherever you are.
