Oil City High School, Middle School Going Remote Due to COVID-19 Cases

OIL CITY, Pa. (EYT) — Students at Oil City High School and Oil City Middle School will be learning remotely through the end of the week due to an increase in reported COVID-19 cases at both schools.

The district announced on Monday, May 3, that the middle school would be moving to remote mode on Tuesday, May 4, due to a number of students testing positive for COVID-19. The middle school is set to remain in remote learning mode through Thursday, May 6, with all extracurricular activities will be postponed.

The 5th-grade field trip to the Cleveland Zoo has also been rescheduled for Monday, May 10.

On Tuesday, the district then announced that due to a number of COVID-19 cases among students at the high school, the high school would also be learning remotely on Wednesday and Thursday.

All extracurricular activities, including Drivers Education, are canceled until Monday, May 10.

Any Oil City student who attends Venango County Technical Center will also remain home and attend the virtual platform on Wednesday and Thursday.

Friday was already scheduled as an Act 80 day at both schools, so the first day for students to return to in-person instruction will be Monday, May 10.

Officials noted that Prom will still be held as scheduled on Friday, May 7.
