PoliceOIL CITY, Pa. (EYT) – An Oil City man was arrested this week for allegedly stealing a woman’s pistol then threatening her with it.

Court documents indicate the Oil City Police Department filed criminal charges against 38-year-old Wade H. Shaffer Jr..

According to a criminal complaint, on April 2, while Oil City Police were investigating another incident involving a known victim, the victim reported that her firearm had been stolen.

According to the complaint, the victim told police that around 2:03 p.m. on March 29, she arrived at her residence and found Wade Shaffer Jr. there. She reported Shaffer then began to demand that she give him a ride, but she refused. Shaffer became angry, packed his things in a bag, and walked out to the garage.

The victim told police she followed him to the garage and went to sit in her vehicle to prevent him from being able to take it. She reported that she then fell asleep sitting in the vehicle and woke up a short time later to Shaffer knocking on the window.

The victim stated she told Shaffer she wasn’t taking him anywhere, and he then brandished a firearm that she recognized as her black Sig Sauer 9mm pistol.

According to the complaint, Shaffer then pointed the gun at the victim’s vehicle and pulled the trigger. However, the gun did not have ammo in it, so it only dry-fired.

The victim told police that Shaffer then pulled the slide back again, pointed the gun at the victim, and pulled the trigger a second time, the complaint states.

The victim reported she then agreed to give Shaffer a ride due to being in fear of him. Shaffer allegedly told her if she gave him a ride, he would return her firearm.

According to the complaint, the victim told police when she dropped Shaffer off, he unloaded a full magazine into the glove box of the vehicle, all except for one round. he then stated “This is all I need,” and exited the vehicle.

The victim said that she normally keeps the firearm beside her bed in a cabinet and stated that at the time of the theft, Shaffer was the only person that had been in the apartment and would have had access to it when it went missing, the complaint notes.

Shaffer was arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge Andrew F. Fish at 9:30 p.m. on April 7, on the following charges:

– Possession of Firearm Prohibited, Felony 1
– Theft by Unlawful Taking-Movable Property, Felony 2
– Coerce/Threat to Commit Crime, Misdemeanor 1
– Simple Assault, Misdemeanor 2

Unable to post $25,000.00 monetary bail, he was lodged in the Venango County Jail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on April 14, with Judge Fish presiding.
