OIL CITY, Pa. (EYT) — Stalking, assault, and related charges have been filed against an Oil City man accused of following and harassing a woman.

Court documents indicate the Oil City Police Department filed criminal charges against 40-year-old Scott Michael Pertz.

According to a criminal complaint, on May 3, Venango County 9-1-1 received a call from a female victim reporting she was being followed around public places.

The complaint notes Oil City Police had the 9-1-1 dispatcher ask the victim to go to the Oil City Police Department where officers would wait for her to arrive.

According to the complaint, when the victim arrived, police observed her vehicle being followed closely, at a high rate of speed, by a red Dodge RAM pickup truck operated by Scott Pertz.

The victim reportedly tried to enter the parking lot area along Elm Street and Pertz nearly struck the victim’s vehicle with his vehicle in front of the officers.

According to the complaint, when police spoke to the victim she reported being the victim of a long history of verbal, mental, and physical abuse from Pertz. She also reportedly stated Pertz had made comments in theist that “he did not know what he would do” if they separated.

The complaint notes the victim told police she had contacted the PPC Violence Free Network for help in obtaining a Protection From Abuse (PFA) order out of concern for Pertz’s actions.

Pertz was then taken into custody.

Pertz was arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge Andrew F. Fish at 3:30 p.m. on May 3 on the following charges:

– Stalking — Repeatedly Commit Acts To Cause Fear, Misdemeanor 1
– Simple Assault, Misdemeanor 2
– Harassment — Follow In Public Place, Summary

Unable to post $25,000.00 monetary bail, he was lodged in the Venango County Jail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on May 12 in Venango County Central Court with Judge Fish presiding.
