Details of the case:

According to a criminal complaint, around 11:35 p.m. on Saturday, October 30, a known victim reported that he had seen a man who appeared to be around 18 years old, wearing a black shirt and black pants, stumbling through a local parking lot, appearing drunk. The victim had stopped to ask the man if he was okay.

The victim told police the man, later identified as Chance Taylor, then branded a long knife and asked said “wanna die (slur)?” according to the complaint.

The victim reported Taylor raised the knife to about chest-high and was holding a cell phone in his other hand. The victim then followed Taylor to a residence on Liberty Street where Taylor reportedly sat on the porch for a time before going inside. The victim then waited until police arrived at the scene, the complaint states.

Police made contact with the homeowners who stated Taylor had just come home and was “drunk again.” Police also located a black cell phone and a 13-inch fixed blade knife in the yard of the residence. Taylor was located in his bed “sleeping” while wearing all black clothing that was soaked from being outside, the complaint indicates.

Taylor was visibly intoxicated and had recent vomit on his face, the complaint notes.

Taylor was subsequently taken into custody based on the victim’s report and due to being intoxicated while on probation, the complaint continues.

According to the complaint, as he was taken into custody, Taylor began to resist officers, threatening to “kill you (slurs),” referring to officers multiple times. The officers had to physically carry Taylor out of the residence and to the police vehicle. The cell phone was given to Taylor’s mother, and she identified it as Taylor’s phone.

After being placed in a holding cell, Taylor attempted to spit on two officers in the cell, the complaint states.

Taylor was arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge Andrew F. Fish at 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 31.
