One Man Killed in Suspected DUI Crash in Bloomfield Township

BLOOMFIELD TWP., Pa. (EYT) — Corry-based State Police have released the details of a fatal suspected DUI crash that occurred in Bloomfield Township on Thursday afternoon.

According to police, the accident happened around 2:45 p.m. on Thursday, April 8, on Rockdale Road at its intersection with King Road, in Bloomfield Township, Crawford County.

Police say a known 34-year-old Union City woman was operating a 2008 Ford Escape, traveling on Rockdale Road at a high rate of speed when the vehicle crested a hill and struck a 2012 Mack commercial truck, operated by a known 51-year-old Cambridge Springs man, that was attempting to turn south on Rockdale Road.

According to police, the driver of the Ford locked up the vehicle’s brakes in an attempt to avoid the collision but still struck the truck head-on.

One passenger in the Ford, identified as a 34-year-old Union City man and the husband of the driver of the vehicle, was declared deceased by Crawford County Coroner Scott Schell.

The driver of the Ford was using a seat belt and suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

One unidentified man who was a rear-seat passenger in the Ford was ejected from the vehicle and was transported from the scene by helicopter to UPMC Hamot.

A second male rear-seat passenger was also injured and was transported by ambulance to UPMC Hamot.

The driver of the truck was not injured.

The names of the victim and the individuals involved in the collision were not released.

Both vehicles sustained front-end damage.

The Ford was towed by Shambaugh’s Towing and impounded for further investigation purposes.

Police say the crash is suspected to be DUI-related, and the investigation is ongoing, with lab test results pending.

Bloomfield Volunteer Fire Department, Centerville Volunteer Fire Department, Townville Volunteer Fire Department, and PSP Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Specialist (CARS) Unit assisted at the scene.
