One Person Airlifted, Two Others Rushed to Local Hospital After Ambulance Crashes, Rolls Over on Route 8

CORNPLANTER TWP., Pa. (EYT) – One person was airlifted and two others rushed to a local hospital after an ambulance crashed into a guide rail and rolled over in Cornplanter Township on Saturday morning.

According to Franklin-based State Police, the crash took place at 9:40 a.m. on Saturday, January 28, on State Highway 8, in Cornplanter Township, Venango County.

Police say 31-year-old Nathan P. Stellitano, of Franklin, was operating the ambulance – a 2016 Ford Econoline E450 – and was transporting a patient to Titusville Hospital.

As the ambulance traveled north, for unknown reasons, it crossed over the center line and traveled across the southbound lane. It then left the roadway and impacted a guide rail along the shoulder of the southbound lane.

After impacting the guide rail, the ambulance traveled down an embankment and struck a ditch. It traveled north along the ditch for a short distance and then rolled over onto the driver’s side.

Stellitano and a passenger—25-year-old Brooklynn M. Lynk, of Sandy Lake—as well as the patient, 76-year-oldDona L. Smith, of Oil City, suffered injuries of unknown severity.

STAT MedEvac transported Smith to UPMC Hamot. She was restrained by a stretcher at the time of the crash.

Cornplanter Volunteer Fire Department transported Stellitano to UPMC Northwest. He was using a seat belt.

Community Ambulance Service transported Lynk to UPMC Northwest. She was not using a seat belt.

PSP Franklin were assisted on the scene by several members from Cherrytree Volunteer Fire Department, Rouseville Volunteer Fire Department, PennDOT, and Minich’s Towing & Recovery.

Troop E Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Specialist (CARS) Unit also assisted at the scene.
