Over $14K Scammed from Local Victims Intercepted by FedEx

CORNPLANTER TWP., Pa. (EYT) – Franklin-based State Police released the details of an incident in which $14,300.00 scammed from local victims was intercepted by FedEx.

On October 12, 2022, around 3:05 p.m., troopers from the Franklin-based State Police barracks took a theft report at the station.

Through further investigation, it was determined by PSP Franklin that the victims were contacted by an unknown actor offering assistance to fix their computer

The victims were subsequently scammed when they mailed $14,300.00 to a Walgreen located in California for the alleged services to the computer completed by the unknown actor, police say.

The package containing the money was subsequently intercepted by FedEx before reaching the California address and returned to the victims, according to police.

The victims were a 71-year-old man and a 70-year-old woman, both of Oil City.
