FRANKLIN, Pa. (EYT) — Charges have been filed against a Franklin woman who reportedly bit a corrections officer at the Venango County Jail.

Court documents indicate the Franklin Police Department filed criminal charges against 19-year-old Kelsey Rose Nichols.

According to a criminal complaint, around 7:24 p.m. on Friday, January 28, Franklin Police were informed of an incident at the Venango County Jail where an inmate reportedly assaulted a corrections officer.

Police then spoke to the victim who reported that Kelsey Rose Nichols had been arrested by the Pennsylvania State Police for a prior offense and had been brought to the Venango County Jail to be held on warrants.

According to the complaint, the victim said while Nichols was being processed into the facility, she was “extremely uncooperative” when she was asked to remove her jacket/sweatshirt, and she refused to comply. The victim/officer then took her arms to “assist” her with taking off her jacket.

Nichols reportedly bent down and bit the victim on the left forearm through her sleeve, leaving a mark on the victim’s left forearm which required the victim to seek medical treatment, the complaint states.

The complaint notes the incident was witnessed by the victim’s superior officer, as well as another corrections officer and a Pennsylvania State Police trooper.

Nichols was arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge Patrick E. Lowrey at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, January 31, on the following charge:

– Aggravated Assault — Attempts to cause or causes Bodily Injury to designated individuals, Felony 2

Unable to post $5,000.00 monetary bail, she was lodged in the Venango County Jail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on February 9 with Judge Lowrey presiding.
