Police: Man Behind Bars After Attempting to Break into Condemned House, Then Fleeing Officers

FRANKLIN, Pa. (EYT) – A 24-year-old-man is behind bars after he allegedly attempted to break into a condemned residence in Franklin and then fled officers through downtown Franklin.

According to court documents, Franklin Police filed criminal charges against 24-year-old Dan Paul Getty in Magisterial District Judge Matthew T. Kirtland’s office on Monday, May 9.

According to a criminal complaint, police responded to a possible burglary in progress at a residence along Wiley Avenue, Franklin, Venango County, on Monday, May 9, around 2:43 p.m. The actor was reportedly driving a purple Dodge pickup truck.

Prior to arrival at the scene, police observed the vehicle matching the description on Parkway Street, near Fountain Lane. Police observed the vehicle to have an expired inspection sticker. The operator, Dan Getty then reversed on Fountain Lane after seeing police and exited onto Sibley Avenue. Police then initiated their visible lights and audible sirens for a traffic stop, the complaint states.

Getty then continued down Sibley Avenue, stopped at the stop sign at Liberty Street and Sibley Avenue, and then turned right onto Liberty Street. At this time, a second police cruiser, with lights and sirens activated, attempted to stop Getty by pulling in front of his vehicle. Getty then drove to the right, around the police cruiser and the stop sign onto the sidewalk, and then into 15th Street, the complaint indicates.

Getty continued into the 1400 block of Liberty Street, where he then re-entered the sidewalk and curtilage of nearby residences on Liberty Street. Getty then exited his vehicle to flee on foot through the 1400 block of Buffalo Street, as well as areas surrounding Chestnut Street and New Street, where he was then apprehended by police, the complaint notes.

During the processing of the scene, it was determined that the vehicle being driven did not have a valid registration, had bald tires, and no proof of insurance was provided. Additionally, Getty did not have a valid license, the complaint states.

He was arraigned at 8:15 p.m. on Monday, May 9, in front of Judge Kirtland on the following charges:

– Criminal Trespassing – Break Into Structure, Felony 2 (two counts)
– Fleeing or Attempting To Elude Officer, Felony 3 (two counts)

– Resist Arrest/Other Law Enforcement, Misdemeanor 2
– Reckless Driving, Summary (two counts)

Getty was denied bail as he was listed as a flight risk. He was lodged in the Venango County Prison.

A preliminary hearing is set for 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18, with Judge Kirtland presiding.
