EMLENTON BOROUGH, Pa. (EYT) — Franklin-based State Police say a robbery occurred yesterday at the IGA store located on River Avenue, in Emlenton Borough, Venango County.

According to police, around 5:00 p.m. on August 31, 61-year-old James Allen Tarleton, Jr., of Oil City, allegedly entered the IGA store and demanded money.

“When the cash register drawer was opened, Tarleton attempted to reach in the drawer and take money; however, he was unable to get money, so he then exited the store,” police say.

At 5:29 p.m., the vehicle involved in the robbery was observed by Officer Webster of Knox Borough Police Department. Tarleton along with the driver of the van were taken into custody, according to police.

A criminal complaint was filed with Magisterial District Judge Snyder for Robbery, police say.

Unable to post $50,000.00 straight bail, Tarleton, was committed to the Venango County Jail.
