Police: Oil City Man Threatens 9-Year-Old With Gun, Assaults Him

OIL CITY, Pa. (EYT) – An Oil City man is facing an assault charge after he allegedly threatened a nine-year-old child with a gun and assaulted him.

According to court documents, Oil City Police filed criminal charges against 43-year-old Van Curtis Ringgold on Monday, May 9.

According to a criminal complaint, police received a report on Monday, May 9, from Venango County Children and Youth Services regarding an assault of a nine-year-old juvenile male. The CYS report states that the child was reportedly threatened with a gun, as well as kicked in the side.

Officers went to a residence located on West Fourth Street, Oil City, Venango County, on May 9, around 11:26 a.m., to make contact with the child’s parents, and no contact was made, according to the complaint.

Around 6:30 p.m. on May 9, police obtained corroborating evidence in the form of a photograph that showed an obvious mark near the child’s left eye consistent with being struck in the face. Police went to the residence but were unable to make contact with the occupants, the complaint indicates.

Police then requested that a warrant be issued for Van Ringgold.

He was arraigned at 10:35 a.m. on Tuesday, May 10, in front of Magisterial District Judge Matthew T. Kirtland on the following charge:

– Simple Assault, Misdemeanor 1

Ringgold is currently free on $5,000.00 unsecured bail.

A preliminary hearing is set for Wednesday, May 18, at 1:30 p.m., in Venango County Central Court with Judge Kirtland presiding.
