CRANBERRY TWP., Pa. (EYT) – Franklin-based State Police released the details of a head-on collision that occurred earlier this month on Route 322 in Cranberry Township.

According to police, the crash occurred around 11:25 a.m. on June 15, US 322 just east of Green Acres Road in Cranberry Township, Venango County.

Police say a 2016 Ford F-150 XLT, operated by 69-year-old Stephen D. Smith, of Franklin, was traveling east on US 322, when for unknown reasons, the vehicle traveled off the roadway along the eastbound lane and struck a mailbox.

The vehicle then continued approximately 100 feet before reentering the eastbound lane, then crossed the center line into the westbound lane, where it struck a 2011 Subaru Outback, operated by 82-year-old Evelyn S. Ostergard, that was traveling west.

Police say due to the force of the impact, Smith’s vehicle rotated Ostergard’s vehicle clockwise, where it came to a final rest facing northwest. Smith’s vehicle also rotated clockwise and entered the eastbound lane and continued traveling east.

Smith and Ostergard were both using seat belts and were not injured.

Seneca Volunteer Fire Department, Community Ambulance Service, and Venango Towing assisted at the scene.
