Western Pennsylvania was treated to some of the nicest weather of the summer over the weekend and that meant lots of racing at area tracks.

Friday night at Lernerville Speedway the night got started with a new face visiting victory lane.

In the big block modified feature Jim Rasey thrilled fans with a last lap pass of fellow Ohio wheelman Jim Weller on a super-fast track to score his first win at Lernerville Speedway in over 16 years! Defending track champion AJ Flick would then win his fourth Lernerville feature of the season by passing Clarion racer Mike Bauer in the closing laps of the feature. Bauer would hold on for second place, his best career finish at the Sarver oval.

Jared Miley returned for the Dave Thompson Memorial and led all 25 laps for his third Lernerville win of the season, this one worth $3,000. In the stock car nightcap, Joey Zambotti scored his first win of the season over current point leader Tyler Dietz and defending track champ Cory McPherson. It will be another night of Fab 4 racing this Friday as the point battles start to heat up during the final month of regular Friday racing.

Friday night at Thunder Mountain Speedway the RUSH wingless sprint cars made their first-ever appearance at the Brookville oval. Gale Ruth Jr. was able to stop the Chad Ruhlman juggernaut as he passed the eight-time winner in exciting fashion to win the first ever RUSH feature at the track. Other winners Friday included Jon Lee in the late models, Zach Myers in the semi-lates, Tim Bish in the street stocks, and DJ Clark in the four cylinders. This Friday it will be fan appreciation night at Thunder Mountain. Fans can enjoy dollar hot dogs, giveaways and autographs from their favorite drivers.

It was a big night of action at Hummingbird Speedway Saturday where the track celebrated the 90th birthday of track owner and promoter Louie Caltagarone along with three make up features on top of the regular five-division race program. The night’s action saw seven different winners in eight features with John Campisano being the only repeat winner in the four-cylinder class. Other winners included Mike Miller and Mike Anderson in the pure stock features, Chris Farrell and Levi Sikora in the late model features, along with Nick Erskine in the semi-late feature and Josh Fields in the street stock main event. Another regular five-division program is on tap this Saturday at The Bird.

Saturday at Sharon Speedway two drivers went back to back where Rex King Jr. won his second consecutive big block modified feature after sweeping the weekend action a week ago. Then in the Penn-Ohio Stock Car feature Andrew Gordon of DuBois did the same with his second win in a row at the Hartford oval and it was worth $1,000. In the RUSH modified feature Josh Deems became the fourth driver to win his first feature of the season while Ty Rhoades scored his first econo mod victory at the Hartford oval.

This Saturday the 410 sprint cars will return to Sharon Speedway for the first of three consecutive Saturdays. Joining the sprints this Saturday for the Kirilla Memorial will be the pure stocks, RUSH modifieds, and econo mods. The four division show is scheduled to get underway at 7 p.m.

After a successful visit by the All-Star Circuit of Champions the BOSS wingless sprint car series invaded Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway this past Saturday. Ty Tilton of Lima, Ohio scored his first-ever win at the track while Brandon Matus was the highest finishing local driver with a fifth-place finish. RUSH crate late models will highlight the card this Saturday at the Monster Half Mile and there will also be bike races for the kids.
