NelsonRonald L. Nelson, 46, of Skokie, Illinois, formerly of Oil City, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago on Saturday, June 25, 2016.

He was born in Benton, Kentucky on November 25, 1969 to Bernice J. (Merrell) Nelson and the late Jerry W. Nelson, Sr.

Ron studied building and carpentry through the Chicago Carpenters Apprenticeship Program. He was employed as the building manager for Alden Estates of Northmoor.

He attended Grace United Methodist Church in Oil City.

Ron loved playing softball. He was an avid sports fan, especially cheering on the Chicago Blackhawks ice hockey team. His most treasured time was spent with his family, taking walks along Lake Michigan, and visiting the Lincoln Park Zoo.

Ron is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Tammy; two sons, Adam, Daniel and his wife Lori; two daughters, Ashlyn and Chloe; his mother, Bernice Nelson; his siblings, Jeanne, Jerry and his wife Goldie and their families; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Tom and Beverly Wood; his sisters-in-law, Cindy and her husband Steve, and Missy and her husband Mark and their families; and many beloved extended family members including Keith, Kerry, and Phil.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry W. Nelson, Sr.

Friends will be received Saturday (July 2nd) from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Hile-Best Funeral Home, 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca, Cranberry Township, where the funeral service will follow Saturday (July 2nd) at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Byron Myers, pastor of Grace United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Grove Hill Cemetery in Oil City.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Ron’s memory to a memorial that will be created at the Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago, Illinois. Contributions may be mailed to his son, Daniel Winters, 8438 Lawndale Ave., Skokie, Ill. 60076.
