Roy Edwin “Big Roy” Eckard, 69, of Shinglehouse, formerly of Clarion, died Friday, July 26, 2013 in Charles Cole Memorial Hospital in Coudersport.

Born on July 15, 1944 in Washington, D.C., Roy was the son of the late Albert and Edith Lamb Eckard.

Roy was a truck driver for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and boating.

Surviving is one son, Roy D. Eckard of St. Petersburg, and his son’s mother, Jackie Jones; three brothers, John, Ralph, and Albert; and a sister, Martha. Roy is also survived by his long time companion, Carol App, as well as a number of grandchildren, nieces, nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, a brother, Bob Eckard, and a sister-in-law, Janet Eckard.

A memorial service and luncheon will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 3 at the Miller — Rankin American Legion Post #636 Rt. 58, Foxburg. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hile Funeral Home Inc., St. Petersburg. Online condolences may be sent by visiting www.hilefh.com.
