Russell CannRussell I. Cann, 87, of Pinoak Circle, Oil City, passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2013, at the Clarion-Forest VNA Serenity House in Shippenville, following an extended illness.

Born September 14, 1925, in Cranberry, he was the son of Byron I. and Mary I. G. Cann.

He attended school in the Oil City area.

He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps during WWII, with tours of duty in Germany, Belgium and France, earning the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Russell was employed by Continental Can Company, where he retired after more than 30 years of service.

Mr. Cann was of the protestant faith and a long time member of the Calvary United Methodist Church, in Oil City.

Russ was a member of American Legion Post 32 and was a member of Cranberry Mall A.M. Walkers.
Surviving are two sisters, Virginia M. Cann of Oil City, Carol A. Anchors and husband Wayne of Cambridge Springs. He is also survived by one brother George R. Cann of Seneca.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Edgar A. Cann, Robert E. Cann, Charles F. Cann and John B. Cann; and six sisters, Marion A. Smith, Florence I. ‘Jean’ Sosnowski, Ardelle L. Mietus, Isabelle L. Miller, Ruth A. Deshner, and Patricia L. Ziegler.

Friends may call at the Morrison Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm on Friday.

Services will be held at 11 am Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Bruce Davis, pastor of the Calvary United Methodist Church, officiating.

Interment will be in Grove Hill Cemetery, Oil City.
