Seneca Woman Faces Charges for Allegedly Using Fake $50 Bills at Local Business

OIL CITY, Pa. (EYT) — Forgery and related charges have been filed against a Seneca woman who allegedly used two fake $50 bills at a local business.

Court documents indicate the Oil City Police Department filed criminal charges against 33-year-old Ashley Nicole Edwards.

According to a criminal complaint, around 8:12 p.m. on January 22, Oil City Police were dispatched to the Southside Country Fair for a report of the use of counterfeit money.

At the scene, police were informed the individual that used the money was Ashley Edwards.

Police were also provided with a transaction receipt and two fraudulent $50 bills that were marked “For Motion Picture Purposes” on the front and back, according to the complaint.

On February 9, police reviewed security footage from the business.

The complaint states Edwards could be seen in the video placing various items onto the counter and handing the cashier two $50 bills, one of which she used to purchase the items and received $20 change from, and the other which she only got change for.

Edwards was arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge Andrew F. Fish at 9:15 a.m. on April 8, on the following charges:

– Forgery — Unauthorized Act in Writing, Felony 2
– Theft by Deception-False Impression, Misdemeanor 2
– Receiving Stolen Property, Misdemeanor 2
– Retail Theft-Take Merchandise, Summary

She remains free on $2,500.00 unsecured bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on April 21, with Judge Fish presiding.
