Vehicle Disabled by Deer Struck by Second Vehicle in Clinton Township

According to police, around 11:11 a.m. on June 26, a two-vehicle crash occurred on State Route 308 in Clinton Township.

Police say a 2006 Chevrolet Equinox, operated by a known 17-year-old female, from Clintonville, was traveling north on State Route 308 just after cresting the top of a hill on a right-hand curve when a deer entered the roadway from the east side. The vehicle then struck the deer just as it was starting down the hill.

According to police, the vehicle then became partially disabled as it was traveling downhill. A 2017 Chevrolet Cruze, operated by 28-year-old Andrew E. Lutz, of Clintonville, then crested the same hill, traveling north, and saw the disabled vehicle directly in front of him. Lutz tried to avoid making contact with the other vehicle, but was unable to avoid a collision.

The Cruze struck the rear driver’s side of the Equinox, then traveled off the west side of the road and into a ditch.

Lutz, the teen driver, and her passenger, a 17-year-old female from Polk, were all wearing seat belts.

Lutz was not injured.

It is unknown if the teen driver or her passenger were injured.

Emlenton Fire Department, Emlenton Ambulance Service, and Cliff Hovis Towing also assisted at the scene.
