State Police Calls: Retail Theft, Criminal Mischief, Car Vs. Deer

VENANGO CO., Pa. (EYT) – Franklin-based State Police responded to the following calls:

Retail Theft in Sugarcreek Borough

According to police, around 4:01 p.m. on September 12, 43-year-old Mark Heller, of Oil City, took a pair of new Wrangler Retro slim boot jeans, valued at $49.99, and went into the fitting rooms at the Rural King store in Sugarcreek Borough, Venango County, then took the tags off of the jeans and replaced them on his old jeans. He then placed his old jeans on the shelf and fled the scene.

Franklin-based State Police responded to the scene and were able to identify Heller.

Receiving Stolen Property in Cranberry Township

Franklin-based State Police were alerted about a possible impaired driver passed out behind the wheel of a 2015 Dodge Journey in the Walmart parking lot in Cranberry Township, Venango County, around 12:02 p.m. on September 24.

Police say during the investigation of the incident, it was determined the driver, identified as a 30-year-old Cranberry woman, was not impaired, but she was in possession of stolen property owned by Walmart.

According to police, the woman was found in possession of a shopping basket, valued at $25.00, which is normally provided for use by Walmart shoppers but is not offered for sale.

Charges are pending through District Court 28-3-04.

The name of the woman was not released.

Criminal Mischief in Jackson Township

According to police, unknown individual(s) threw rocks through the glass door and window at of a known 69-year-old Meadville woman’s property on Donation Hill Road in Jackson Township, Venango County, at an unknown date and time.

Police say the incident caused $50.00 of damage to the glass window and $800.00 damage to the glass door.

Vehicle Vs. Deer in Cranberry Township

According to police, around 8:41 a.m. on September 22, a one-vehicle accident occurred on U.S. 322 just west of Deep Hollow Road in Cranberry Township, Venango County.

Poice say 64-year-old William A. Henshaw, of Franklin, was operating a 2011 Chevrolet HHR, traveling east on U.S. 322 when a deer entered the roadway from the right side. The vehicle struck the deer and continued traveling east for a short distance before Henshaw realized the vehicle’s brakes were no longer functioning.

Henshaw then managed to bring the vehicle to a controlled stop just east of Victory Church Road.

Henshaw and his passenger, 71-year-old Lonny D. Wofford, of Franklin, were both using seat belts and were not injured.

Lowry’s Towing also assisted at the scene.
