Traffic Stop Leads to Felony Drug Charge for Franklin Woman Caught With Meth

SUGARCREEK BOROUGH, Pa. (EYT) — Felony drug charges have been filed against a Franklin woman who was caught in possession of a large quantity of methamphetamine during a traffic stop last week in Sugarcreek Borough.

Court documents indicate the Sugarcreek Borough Police Department filed criminal charges against 26-year-old Kelsi Elizabeth Hawthorne.

According to a criminal complaint, around 6:52 p.m. on September 23, Sugarcreek Borough Police observed Kelsi Elizabeth Hawthorne driving a red Saturn with a registration that was flagged as canceled for insurance cancellation and initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle.

The complaint notes the officer observed Hawthorne had glassy eyes and reacted slowly to the conversation. The officer also smelled a faint odor of marijuana in the vehicle and then requested standardized field sobriety testing.

According to the complaint, Hawthorne fell during the testing and was then placed under arrest. Then, during a search incident to arrest, Hawthorne was found to be in possession of 19.5 grams of methamphetamine and 19 unused stamp bags, as well as a digital scale.

Hawthorne was arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge Andrew F. Fish at 10:30 p.m. on September 23, on the following charges:

– Manufacture, Delivery, or Possession With Intent to Manufacture or Deliver, Felony
– Possession of Controlled Substance, Misdemeanor
– Use/Possession Of Drug Paraphernalia, Misdemeanor
– Vehicle Registration Suspended, Summary

Unable to post $15,000.00 secured bail, she was lodged in the Venango County Jail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on September 30, with Judge Fish presiding.
