CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, Pa. (EYT) — Police say two Oil City residents have been accused of stealing items from Cranberry Walmart and allegedly returning them to Titusville Walmart for a refund.

According to Franklin-based State Police, 24-year-old Ariel L. Mederer, and 19-year-old Gehrig R. Mederer, both of Oil City, have been accused of retail theft.

Police say Titusville Walmart notified Cranberry Walmart of items returned without a receipt on May 19, including a Dyson DC33MF sweeper and a BMBOO pillow. Cranberry Walmart found that the Dyson sweeper was missing from inventory and discovered that the theft of items stolen in this case was captured on video.

According to police, Ariel Mederer and Gehrig Mederer entered the Cranberry Walmart store on May 19 and entered the sweeper aisle where a Dyson sweeper was selected. Then, both suspects allegedly proceeded to the front of the store and exited without paying for the Dyson sweeper which was located in the bottom of the cart being pushed by Gehrig Mederer.

After the suspects exited the store, Gehrig Mederer allegedly proceeded to a vehicle and Ariel Mederer allegedly re-entered the store and selected a BMBOO pillow, exiting without paying for that item, police say.

The suspects then went to Titusville Walmart where it is alleged that Ariel Mederer fraudulently returned the stolen Dyson sweeper, pillow, and another item in exchange for a gift card for the amount of the items returned, according to police.

Walmart required her to produce identification for the items she was returning since she did not have a receipt, and she reportedly produced her PA Driver’s license to complete the return, police say.

Regarding the Cranberry Walmart case, Ariel Mederer has been charged with the following offenses:

Retail Theft, Misdemeanor 2
Criminal Conspiracy to Commit Retail Theft, Misdemeanor 1

Gehrig Mederer has been charged with Retail Theft, Misdemeanor 1.

Both suspects are awaiting a preliminary hearing.

PSP Corry is investigating related incident(s) reported to them by Titusville Walmart, according to PSP Franklin.
