United Way of Venango County Joins Bridge Builders to Raise Funds for COVID-19 Relief Fund

| April 19, 2020

VENANGO CO., Pa., (EYT) – The United Way of Venango County and Bridge Builders Community Foundation have partnered to bring a COVID-19 Relief Fund to Venango County.

The fund will provide flexible resources to organizations in the region that work with communities disproportionately impacted by COVID-19 and the economic consequences of precautions put in place to prevent its spread.

Funds, in the form of one-time grants, will help local nonprofit organizations.

One hundred percent of donated funds will go to crisis response efforts with no administration, fundraising, or overhead fees.

Will Price, Executive Director of the United Way of Venango County, explained what kind of help those nonprofit organizations receiving money from the fund should be able to provide.

“They should be able to give financial assistance, food assistance, and rent assistance,” he told exploreVenango.com.

Help will go to residents who don’t have health insurance or access to paid sick leave; those unable to provide themselves or their families with basic necessities; and senior citizens concerned with exposure, among others.

Price said the agencies on the front line would be able to help with the needs they see in the community during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The funds aren’t just for United Way Partners or Bridge Builders Community Foundation partners,” he said. “It’s for any nonprofit that has been helping people with the situation created by COVID-19.”

Details on how agencies will apply for the grants and how funds will be awarded are still being worked out. Once that is decided, there will be an application on the United Way’s website.

A panel comprised of both United Way and Bridge Builders Community Foundation representatives will allocate the funds.

More than $100,000 has been collected so far, according to Price.

Donations to the fund can be made here. There are also details on how the money will be used and distributed.

Checks may be sent to:

PO Box 303
Reno, Pa. 16343

Donations made to the COVID-19 relief fund are separate from the United Way’s other fundraising.

Funds collected by the United Way during its regular campaign in the fall should be being distributed right now, but Price said that process is on hold until May.

Venango County residents finding themselves in need of assistance should call 2-1-1 to find an agency that may best be able to help them.

“They’re available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They have a database full of programs that are available for individuals in the area that have been affected by COVID-19.”

Price expects the COVID-19 relief fund will continue collecting donations for the foreseeable future.

“We’re going to keep the fund open until we see the decline of COVID-19. Right now, we’re in the midst of seeing the true needs of the community and the individuals being affected by COVID-19, but we feel that the needs are going to continue to grow and change.”
