UPDATE: Police Searching for Clues After Woman’s Body Found at Mercer County Landfill

| June 26, 2014

MERCER COUNTY, Pa. – Sources say a young woman’s body was discovered by workers yesterday afternoon at a Mercer County waste disposal site.

According to a published article in cbslocal.com, Mercer County State Police are investigating the incident after the body was found around 3:00 p.m. on June 25, at Tri-County Industries, Inc., in Pine Township, Mercer County.

Sources say Tri-County is a transfer station, and trucks haul in refuse from a wide area, ranging from Clarion County to Erie to Youngstown, Ohio. After arriving at this station, the refuse is put in larger trucks and taken out to a landfill.

State Police have not identified the woman; she is described as a white female between the ages of 16 to 25, around 5′ tall, with long, brown hair, blue eyes, and pierced ears. She was wearing black yoga pants, a black tank top, white ankle socks with green trim, and a green bra, according to police.

Authorities are searching the landfill today for any identifying items, such as a purse or related items.

Police say Tri-County Industries’ employees were interviewed.

Police are also reviewing reports of missing women throughout the region.

An autopsy in Erie has been scheduled for today.
