With Election Day Here, Voters Discuss Which Candidate They’re Voting For

VENANGO CO., Pa. (EYT) – Voters in Venango County are prepared to head to the polls today as a hot and contentious presidential election draws to a close.

According to Reuters, as of Monday, Democrat challenger Joe Biden held a commanding national lead over incumbent President Donald Trump.

However, with the margins narrower in battleground states like Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin, the result of the election is still far from decided.

Locally, the presidential election remains a popular topic of discussion, with support widely split between the three candidates on the ballot.

Incumbent President Donald Trump still has a large support base in our local area, with voters citing many reasons for the choice.

“My beliefs align with many of his policies, and I feel like he has done a great job the last few years with keeping his word on what he planned to do,” Alexa Marquis stated.

Those concepts of shared values and accomplishments were echoed by other voters, as well.

“I voted for Trump/Pence for many reasons but one of them is religious freedom. As a local pastor being able to preach what Scripture says about an issue is very important but the Democratic Party Platform is clear that my religious freedom and speech will not be protected if it doesn’t align with their beliefs on issues. This is a very dangerous road to travel down for any nation,” Steve Henry, Pastor of Victory Heights Church, noted.

Trump’s policies were another reason cited by other voters, as well.

“His policies with the economy and taxes will lead to more growth, which means more jobs. The more jobs there are, the more opportunities there will be for people to advance themselves. More jobs, more opportunity, means better lives,” Kevin Songer stated.

However, support for Democratic challenger Joe Biden is also widespread, with some voters citing a desire for a change after four years under the Trump administration.

“I voted for Biden and Harris! We can’t take four more years of lies, racism and misogyny,” Staci Renae stated.

Voting for Biden primarily as an act of opposition against Trump seems to be a common theme for many voters.

“Biden all the way. There are too many reasons why I would never vote for a person like Trump,” Kim Copley said.

“I support Joe Biden because I want to live in the United States not the Divided States of America,” Jodi Focht added.

Biden’s stances and policies are also a draw for some voters.

“I am supporting Joe Biden because he believes the scientists and wants to do all he can to reverse climate change. He wants to tax the rich and stop their plundering of America. Biden supports a Women’s right to choose. Joe will work for all of America….Joe will not have tweet wars and alienate our allies,” Scotty Rock noted.

While the polls mainly focus on the two major-party candidates, support for Libertarian candidate Jo Jorgensen seems to have grown in our local region, with many voters speaking in favor of her candidacy.

“She is the only one I can morally support and who is going to shrink the amount of government interference in American lives. She’s also a businesswoman and psychologist, not a millionaire or lifetime politician who has had multiple sexual assault allegations,” Shay-La Wuorinen said.

“She’s intelligent, eloquent, passionate, careful with her words, respectful of others, and has plans, not simply vague ideas, on ways to minimize Big Government, bring our troops home, end corporate cronyism, revise our healthcare system, put our children’s education back into the hands of the people who actually understand students’ needs, and much more,” Melissa McGinnis added.

Whatever the outcome of Election Day, hope for the future seems to be one thing voters on all sides share.

“Praying that the country can accept either name because we are the United States of America. We need to remember our Founding Fathers who wrote our Constitution. Respect in both parties needs to be displayed at this time,” Missy Wolfe said.
