Woman Rescued from Allegheny River in Oil City

OIL CITY, Pa. (EYT) — Officials say a woman was rescued from the Allegheny River near the Wye Bridge in Oil City on Thursday morning.

According to a representative of Venango County 9-1-1, they received a call reporting a woman in the river around 10:00 a.m. on January 14.

Oil City Police, Oil City Fire Department, and Community Ambulance Service were dispatched to the scene.

Oil City police Chief Dave Ragon told exploreVenango.com that the woman, who was spotted just south of the Wye Bridge, is believed to have intentionally gone into the river.

Ragon said it took at least 30 minutes to get the woman out of the water.

She was then transported to UPMC Northwest for treatment.

The scene was cleared around 10:45 a.m.

A representative of Oil City Fire Department said they plan to release additional information about the incident later today.
